Super Cruise employs a driver attention system and precision LiDAR map data, along with a network of cameras and sensors that use real-time information. The combination of data from each of these points helps govern and control the steering, braking, and acceleration. Cadillac says this more data-rich approach to ADAS systems is unique in the automotive industry.

Super Cruise functionality is enabled by a data connection for real-time, precise positioning and periodic Super Cruise map updates. All Super Cruise-equipped vehicles include 3 years of connectivity to support functionality, after which a Connected Services† plan must be purchased. If your vehicle is properly equipped, Super Cruise can recognize when you’re pulling a trailer and automatically adjust the gap to the next vehicle ahead for extra stopping distance. Lane change functionality is temporarily disabled and will not be available when you’re trailering with Super Cruise. The Super Cruise symbol will then turn red and you will need to immediately retake control of the vehicle. On some vehicles (excluding CT6 and XT6), when all other driving conditions are met but your vehicle is not centered in your lane, the Super Cruise symbol will light up blue until your vehicle is centered in your lane. When it is safe to do so, press the SUPER CRUISE button on the steering wheel to engage Super Cruise.
GIVING YOU THE FREEDOM TO GO HANDS-FREE
Activating Super Cruise is easy, just like turning on cruise control in an older vehicle with one additional step. Program the adaptive cruise control to the desired speed, wait for the steering wheel icon to appear in the gauge cluster, press the Super Cruise button on the steering wheel, and wait for the light to turn green. So long as the steering wheel light remains green, Super Cruise is active. When it is safe to do so, press the Super Cruise button on the steering wheel to engage Super Cruise. When the symbol and steering-wheel light bar illuminate in green, you may remove your hands from the steering wheel.
If you do not see this prompt, your vehicle is not equipped with the Lane Change on Demand functionality. With an attentive driver, and under the proper conditions, Super Cruise-equipped vehicles can permit hands-free operation of the vehicle.
